How to Spot a Fake Perfume: 7 Checks Before You Buy
Counterfeit perfumes are getting harder to tell apart. These seven checks, and one question about the seller, protect your money and your skin.
A fake perfume costs you twice: it does not last, and nobody knows what is inside it. Counterfeits have become convincing enough that the box alone no longer tells the story. Here is what to check.
1. Start with the seller
This is the check that matters most. Ask one question: where does this seller get its stock? A seller who buys from the brand's official agents and authorized distributors can say so plainly.
2. A price with no explanation
A lower price is not a warning sign on its own. A lower price that nobody can explain is. Sellers with no showrooms and low overheads can charge less for the same bottle, and they will tell you why.
3. The packaging
Genuine boxes are wrapped tightly and evenly. The printing is sharp, the fonts are consistent and there are no spelling mistakes.
4. The batch code
Look for a code printed or engraved on the box and on the base of the bottle. The two should match.
5. The bottle and cap
The glass should be clear and free of bubbles. The cap should close firmly and have some weight to it, and the sprayer should sit straight and centred.
6. The liquid
It should be clear, with no sediment, and the colour should match what you know of that fragrance.
7. How it behaves over time
A genuine fragrance develops in stages over several hours. A fake often opens harsh and alcoholic, then turns flat or disappears within the hour.
Good to know: batch-code websites only estimate a production date. They cannot prove a bottle is genuine, because counterfeiters copy real codes. The source is the proof.
Why it matters beyond the money
Genuine fragrances are made to safety standards for use on skin. With a counterfeit, the ingredients are unknown and untested, and skin irritation is a real risk.
Where we stand
Every bottle at Perfumes For Less is bought from the brands' official agents and authorized distributors inside Saudi Arabia. Our prices are lower because we run no showrooms, not because the bottle is any different.
